Lincoln City have announced that management duo Danny and Nicky Cowley – who were the early bookies’ favourites for the vacant Ipswich Town job – have signed new contracts at the play-off chasing League Two club until 2022.

The brothers’ original deals were due to expire in the summer of 2021, but the club have moved to further protect two wanted me.

After non-league success with Concord Rangers and Braintree Town, the former school teachers have guided the Imps to a historic FA Cup quarter-final, the National League title and a Checkatrdae Trophy triumph at Wembley.

Danny Cowley recently said he hoped signing new deals would end speculation of a summer departure.

Meanwhile, Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard – who was recently linked to Town – is now the odds-on favourite for the Rangers job.
