IT IS back to the bread and butter of Touchline SIL Senior Division action for Melton St Audry’s tomorrow, after their extraordinary cup-tie last Saturday.

Melton defeated Stanton 14-13 on penalties, following a 2-2 draw after extra-time, to reach the quarter-finals of the Bob Coleman Cup, where they will entertain Felixstowe United.

Melton travel to Ipswich tomorrow to face Crane Sports, who themselves have a big cup date looming on the horizon.

Crane’s face Ipswich Wanderers in the semi-final of the LB Group Suffolk Senior Cup a week tomorrow, and Melton manager Steve Moore said this may work in his side’s favour.

“It is not a bad time to play them, but they are a good side who made some very good signings in the summer.”

Melton currently occupy tenth spot – one place and one point above tomorrow’s opponents – and Moore admitted he was disappointed with how their league campaign had panned out.

“We have underachieved this year in terms of our results, although not our performances.”

Moore is looking for more goals from strikers Mo Fike, who has netted eight times in 16 league games, and Josh Kerridge, who has just one in seven.

But he had praise for skipper Chris Pratt, who has scored 14 times in all competitions from the centre of midfield.

“Chris has been terrific for us and led by example as captain,” he said.
