The biggest game of the SIL season so far takes place at Greshams Sports & Social Club tonight, when leaders Achilles travel to Crane Sports.

Luke Hillyard’s Mighty A’s lead the Senior Division on goal difference from Iain Radnor’s second-placed side, both teams locked on 64 points with three games left.

Victory for either side would go a long way to deciding the destination of the title, with both teams in stunning form ahead of the 6pm kick-off.

Achilles are unbeaten in 20 games, following Saturday’s 2-0 home victory against Felixstowe Harpers, while Cranes, who have scored 24 goals less than their opponents tonight, have not lost in 17 matches.

After tonight’s game Achilles have arguably the easier run in.

They go to fourth-bottom Leiston St Margarets on Saturday, the coastal side safe from relegation, before finishing off against Ipswich Valley Rangers, who have picked up just two points all season, scoring only 15 times and conceding on 123 occasions.

As for Cranes, they finish with games against fifth and sixth-bottom sides Grundisburgh and Wenhaston, both at home.

Should a draw be the outcome tonight, the teams will remain on the same points going into their final two games.

Free-scoring Achilles, led by 34-goal striker Liam Hillyard, would have the advantage though, and reached a century of goals for the season, on Saturday.

In tonight’s other fixtures, the aforementioned IVR, already relegated, host Haughley United.

In Division One, meanwhile, second-top Coplestonians can secure promotion to the Senior Division with a victory at home to AFC Hoxne tonight.

A draw for Coplestonians could let in third-placed Henley Athletic, who also play this evening, hosting Benhall St Mary.

With both teams having two games left to play, Coplestonians hold a four-point lead over third-placed Athletic.

Leaders, Ransomes Sports, who sealed promotion on Saturday, will win the title tonight if Coplestonians lose.

Should Cops draw, Ransomes will hold a three-point lead going into Saturday’s final game, and will have a better goal difference, to the tune of 10 goals.
