Cricket: Sudbury sign South African

SOUTH African Charl Pietersen, of the Eagles and Griqualand West, will be coach at Friars Street for the coming cricket season. A club spokesman said: “He brings a wealth of experience, having undertaken lots of coaching, has played SuperSport cricket in South Africa, is now captain of his province and also spent two years in county cricket with Northamptonshire from 2005-6.

Pietersen, of Kimberley, also played against England on the recent tour for a South African Invitational XI, scoring 68 runs and taking the wickets of Strauss, Cook and Trott.

The all-rounder is expected in early April, ready for coaching at the first outdoor nets sessions in the club's new nets.
