Pietersen, of Kimberley, also played against England on the recent tour for a South African Invitational XI, scoring 68 runs and taking the wickets of Strauss, Cook and Trott.

The all-rounder is expected in early April, ready for coaching at the first outdoor nets sessions in the club's new nets.

He has bowled nearly 10,000 balls in first-class cricket at an average of 28, an economy of around three and scored over 1,700 first-class runs at an average of 27.
