AFC Sudbury’s new signing, Darryl Coakley says his new team have ‘huge potential’.

The 26-year-old former Cambridge United professional, has linked back up with Sudbury boss Mark Morsley at King’s Marsh Stadium, after leaving Needham Market this week.

It’s a fresh challenge for Coakley who spent more than four years at Bloomfields. He’s looking forward to it and looking forward to playing under Morsley once again.

“As a club, Sudbury have huge potential,” Coakley said.

“The facilities they have, everyone knows, are some of the best in the league.

“The 3G pitch is new and better than most 3G pitches. For me it’s a Step 3 club at the least and I’m really looking forward to playing for them.

“I loved my time at Needham though.

“Richard Wilkins and all at the club are great, it is an excellent club. I’ve enjoyed my time there.

“Needham haven’t been at the end of the table they wanted to be at and I know they’ve been going on about bad luck, but that really has been the case. But they’ll stay up. They’ll be fine.

“Moving to Sudbury was a chance after four-and-a-half years at Needham to freshen my career up.”

MORE: Morsley gets his man – and he’s delighted

Coakley joined Morsley at Needham Market from Mildenhall Town.

Both have respect for each other and the fact they know each other well is clearly a reason for Coakley’s move to Sudbury.

“He’s a good man is Mark. I like him,” Coakley said.

“He knows what he wants and says it as it is. He provides clarity in his thinking, that all helps.”

Morsley, meanwhile is looking forward to being reunited with Coakley.

“Darryl has joined on a two-year deal but I believe he will become another key part of the long-term plan that myself and my staff are taking Sudbury on.

“Add to all that he is a really great lad who I am personally really keen on for me it’s the perfect match.”

Sudbury have been in good form of late and have won their last three Bostik North games, including away wins at Heybridge and Maldon & Tiptree.

On Saturday they entertain Waltham Abbey and Coakley is sure to feature in the first-team squad.
