Bury St Edmunds’ Director of Rugby, Jon Curry, will field a couple of league debutants for tomorrow afternoon’s visit of Dings Crusaders to the Haberden (kick-off 3pm)in the National League Two South.

Both Bury and the Crusaders were involved in very tight finishes last weekend, both coming out on top due to last-gasp tries, so tomorrow’s contest could be a very tight one.

However, Curry feels that his Bury side have a very good chance to build on their exciting 35-31 win at Old Redcliffians from seven days ago, in front of their home supporters, and it promises to be a big occasion for two debutants – prop Ben Cooper and second-row forward Ruaraidh Williams.

“I didn’t think we played the conditions (very windy) very well last weekend, which was also the case the previous week,” explained Curry, with reference to the earlier 0-10 home defeat to Tonbridge Juddians.

“But we got it right in the end. We did certain things wrong in the first half, which we managed to put right in the second, and of course it was good to come away with a five-point away victory.

“They (Crusaders) had a similar sort of win to us last weekend, but I don’t think it will necessarily be another tight game. That all depends on how well we play, at home. I’m hoping that we put on a good show, against what is another strong Bristol opposition.

“Our skipper, Ollie Watson, is still not ready for a return. We need to make sure his stitches are fully healed, so he won’t be back until next week. But we have Ben Cooper making his debut and also Ruaraidh Williams making his league debut for us.

“Crusaders are close to us in the table, so a win could be a good springboard for us,” added Curry.

The Wolfpack have so far won four and lost three of their first seven fixtures, with two wins and two defeats at The Haberden. They are in ninth place, one place and two points ahead of Crusaders.

Dings scored two late tries to see off Old Albanians by an 18-17 scoreline last weekend. Old Albanians played more than half that match with just 14 men, due to flanker Alex Brown’s first-half red card for stamping, and late tries by Tom Knights and No. 8 Jack Holcombe secured the win.

Meanwhile, Mark Kohler went over for a late try in Bury’s win at Old Redcliffians, the Suffolk visitors having trailed for virtually the whole afternoon.
