However, an early head injury to influential midfielder Anna Foley left the away side with some re-organisation, which ultimately gave Dereham the advantage.

In a number of sweeping moves the home side got behind the Colchester defence and were 3-0 up in the space of ten minutes.

Colchester struggled to keep up with play and conceded a fourth just before half time.

With Foley returning for the second half, Colchester settled back into the game, but could not prevent Dereham from getting their fifth after the defence failed to pick up a free player at the back post.

Colchester refused to give up and were rewarded with a late consolation goal scored by Angela Cook after some fine build up play from Helen Barnes.

The score finished 5-1 to Dereham and left Colchester with plenty to think about before next week.
