AFC Sudbury 8 Dereham Town 2

For the majority of the 194 brave souls who came to the King’s Marsh Stadium on a bitterly cold, windy and wet December afternoon it will be a day to remember as AFC Sudbury hit the back of the net eight times and in doing so left Dereham Town propping up the table in the Bostik North Division, writes Darren Theobald.

Hero of the afternoon was Reece Harris who scored a hat-trick in just eight minutes early in the second half to make sure there was no chance of any Dereham revival.

The first half was all Sudbury and when on 22 minutes Paul Hayes chipped the keeper the goal fest began.

He doubled the lead on 40 minutes and then Callum Harrison scored the third on 42 minutes, all three goals taken from the left of goal with top-class precision.

The second half continued in the same vein as the first and when Harris started his goal tally for the afternoon on 53 minutes making it 4-0, it was set to be a fun, if cold afternoon for the home fans.

Harris then continued and scored another two goals in very quick succession giving him a second half hat trick in just eight minutes.

Dereham did pull a couple of goals back, but every time they did, Sudbury scored as well with substitutes Tom Monk and Mekhi McKenzie.
