Can you remember the golden era of Ipswich women’s basketball?
The female class of the 1980s and 90s, spearheaded by icon Bernard Ball, were major players on the national basketball scene, before the team was forced to withdraw from the Senior National League early in the new Millennium. The Bobcats were known around the country as a force to be reckoned with, producing players who were among the best in the region and beyond.
Now the club has relaunched its senior women’s team as they seek to replicate the successes of the past.
It comes as the club’s under-16 girls’ took runners-up spot in the National League and the Copleston Academy’s under-19 girls won the National Cup.
With young stars like England international Esther Little and a strong coaching team, the future looks bright indeed.
