Colchester United are wallowing in the League One relegation zone, after four games, but keeper Sam Walker sees no reason to press the panic button.

A mere one point gained out of 12 has left Joe Dunne’s men third-from-bottom, going into this Saturday’s daunting home game against Peterborough, who are currently flying high in second spot after three wins from four.

But Walker is happy with the way that his outfield team-mates are playing, and insists that morale is still very high amongst the group.

“The confidence remains high, and that has always been the case here,” insisted Walker.

“There has always been quality in this group, there’s absolutely no doubt about that.

“You could see that with the way we played at Notts County (2-1 defeat), and even against Doncaster (1-0 loss) last weekend. Some of our football has been really excellent.

“It’s just not going our way at the moment, but our luck will turn.

“We will keep believing in ourselves, keep our confidence up, and try to get that first win of the season against Peterbrough.

“One point from four games is certainly not a fair releftcion on how we have been playing, and it’s only a matter of time before we start scoring some goals.

“We will put these defeats behind us,” added Walker.

Ex-Chelsea trainee Walker is happy with the way that the U’s back four are performing, despite this current lean spell.

And he is also adamant that the U’s strikers will start clicking at the other end of the pitch as well.

“We’ve always had a good team partnership with the back five,” explained Walker.

“And Sean (Clohessy) and Ben (Gordon) have come in and added to that.

“Mags (Okuonghae) and Tom (Eastman) have also been fantastic for us, and they were again against Doncaster, considering it was a real end-to-end game.

“I thought that game was going to saunter onto a 0-0 draw, because there wasn’t much in it. A 0-0 draw would have probably been a fair result.

“But we were now have to pick our heads up for another big home game this weekend, against Peterborough.”

In response to a suggestion that U’s target man, Jabo Ibehre, was finding himself a little isolated up front, Walker replied: “No, I don’t think Jabo has been isolated.

“We are creating so many chances, so that is not one of our problems.

“It is just up to us to start getting through some of the strong defences that we have been up against, and I think this will happen,” concluded Walker.
