While some U’s fans were beginning to worry about their team’s short-term future, following three defeats on the bounce and an exit from the FA Cup, Okuonghae and his team-mates stayed composed and certainly didn’t wilt under any extra pressure.

The result has been back-to-back wins over Bury and Hartlepool, a move up to 10th in the League One table, and two consecutive home games to look forward to against Stevenage (Boxing Day) and Exeter (New Year’s Eve).

Centre-half Okuonghae revealed this morning: “It seems that the only people who didn’t panic before those two wins was us in the dressing room.

“Carlisle (1-0 defeat) was a tough place to go to, never mind the terrible conditions. We were obviously very disappointed with ourselves against Swindon (FA Cup defeat), while MK Dons had five shots on goal and scored five goals (5-1 reverse).

“But we didn’t panic. We got ourselves going, and we got some good results. Now we want that to continue,” added Okuonghae.
