Colchester United's unbeaten away league record was ended at Stoke City this afternoon, and they also lost their skipper Karl Duguid to injury.
Stoke took the lead via an eighth minute header from Manchester United loanee defender Ryan Shawcross, but the Clive Platt poached a shock equaliser in the 58th minute.
Stoke regained their lead in the 73rd minute, with Lawrence surging on to Ricardo Fuller's pass to beat the onrushing Dean Gerken with a ferocious shot.
There was no way back for the U's, who therefore suffered their first defeat in five away league games.
