JOE Dunne was angry that his side were not awarded a late penalty, at the end of today’s 1-0 defeat at Bournemouth.

Dunne felt that Drey Wright was fouled in the box, by Wes Fogen, before Josh Thompson tested keeper David James with a goalbound drive.

But referee Brendan Malone did not award a spot kick, so the U’s once again came away with no points.

“I’m really disappointed, really disappointed,” rued Dunne, with reference to the referee’s decision not to award a penalty.

“Drey Wright was fouled in the box. It was a penalty.

“I’ve already seen it on the video, and we felt it on the bench at the time. It’s a penalty, he’s been taken out.

“But I don’t want this one incident to detract from the game.

“I thought we were excellent in the second half. We had chances to score, and hopefully we have taken a step forwards,” added Dunne.

The U’s slithered to their seventh defeat in eight games, undone by Lewis Grabban’s 41st minute winner on the Dorset coast.

United failed to create any goal-scoring chances of note in the first half, although they improved as an attacking force after the break, without applying a killer finishing touch.
