Former Ipswich Town favourite Kieron Dyer has been appointed the full-time assistant manager of the club’s Under-18s.

The 39-year-old former England international has been back working at his hometown club for some time now as he works on his coaching badges.

His autobiography ‘Old Too Soon, Smart Too Late’ was published earlier this year and he has made no secret of his desire to move into management one day further down the line.

Dyer, who will work under U18s manager Adem Atay at Playford Road, said: “I’m enjoying being involved in the development of the young players here.

“I’ve worked with the U16s where it is all about improving as a player more than worrying about results. At U18 level there is still that element, but you are looking at the competitive side as well.”

The former Newcastle, West Ham and QPR midfielder added: “I’m here to help the boys. I’ve been where they are. I can relate to them and hopefully I can take what I have gained during my career and pass that on to the Academy players here.

“It’s a great opportunity for me to progress as a coach as well and I’m relishing the challenge.”
