Fifteen-year-old Jordan Dymond of Fynn Valley, who has a handicap of five, won the Rushmere Junior Open with rounds of 73 and 74. He was one under par in his second round until dropping shots at the final two holes.

Dymond, beaten semi-finalist in the Suffolk Junior match play on the same course, ended two shots ahead of Jack Cardy of Hintlesham, whose disappointing opening round of 78 was followed by a 71.

Harry Hogg of Fynn Valley beat first round leader Curtis Mann of Rushmere on count back for third place. Mann was one under par at the turn on his second round before some costly errors saw him slide down the leader board.

Chris Soanes of Rookery Park put himself out of contention with an opening round of 81. He hit back with 70, the best round of the day, in the afternoon.

The longer handicap competitors played only one Stableford round. Winner was Cheryl Chisholm with 43 points off a handicap of 18. She beat Luke Skippings of Rushmere into second place, although the runner-up's handicap has been reduced to 14 after his haul of 41 points.

Joshua Young of Rushmere won Division Three with 42 points. His handicap has been reduced from 25 to 23.

George Summers, who recently celebrated his 80th birthday, has run the event for the past 14 years. He hands over next year to David Duffell.

Summers said: “I started the tournament after I attended a meeting of the Suffolk Golf Union junior committee who felt that 36-hole competitions would help to improve the standard of the county's young golfers.”
