Suffolk is gearing up for the arrival of the best female cyclists in the world this weekend as it hosts the climax of the inaugural Women’s Tour of Britain.
The third stage will set out from Felixstowe and head down to Essex on Friday, then the tour returns to Suffolk on Sunday before finishing in Bury St Edmunds.
World and Olympic champion Marianne Vos and Team GB stars Lizzie Armitstead and Laura Trott will be among those flying through the streets of Clacton, Felixstowe, Harwich Sudbury, Long Melford and Lavenham before crossing the finish line at the Angel Hill in Bury St Edmunds on Sunday.
The event’s arrival is expected to boost tourism and trade across this side of the county, while local people are being encouraged to use the race as an opportunity to get on their own bike.
Alan Murray, Suffolk County Council’s cabinet member for health and adult care, said: “By bringing the tour to Suffolk, our communities have a real opportunity to get involved in a world class international sporting event.”
