In this week’s Ipswich Town nostalgia, we look back to March 16, 2013, when skipper Carlos Edwards netted a late minute winner to see the Blues to a crucial 1-0 victory over Bolton at Portman Road.
Town should have been ahead in the first half, with Edwards, Andy Drury and Daryl Murphy going close for Mick McCarthy’s side.
After the break, the two sides both had chances to break the deadlock with Murphy lifting a shot over the bar and Chris Eagles scuffing a shot wide for Bolton.
With just two minutes remaining the Blues found the winner when Jay Emmanuel-Thomas charged down the wing and tricked his way past Sam Ricketts before sending in a low cross towards Edwards, whose first effort was blocked by Alonso but his second nestled in the corner of the net for his first goal of the campaign.
The Blues saw out the final minutes comfortably to record their first double of the 2012-13 season, after beating Bolton 2-1 at the Reebok in December.
