THREE weeks' work by Joe Royle paid off yesterday when it was announced that Leicester City's Scottish international Matt Elliot has signed for a month on loan.

The centre-back will train with his new team-mates today and, with Town down to the bare bones after Saturday's defeat at home to Millwall, is likely to go straight into the team to face Walsall tomorrow night.

It's a boost for Royle, who has faced a frustrating time in the loan market as he has strived to add players to Town's promotion-chasing squad.

And with the Blues still leaking goals, it's a signing that could prove crucial as they aim to get back into Division One's top six.

He has played eight games for the Foxes this season as they have struggled against relegation, and was on the bench when they earned a crucial away win at Birmingham City on Saturday.

“I have been chasing Matt for three weeks and am delighted that he has agreed to join us,” Royle told the official Ipswich Town website yesterday.

“Matt will be with us for a month and has come at a time when we are experiencing an injury crisis at the back. In fact at the moment he is our only fit centre-half!”

Elliot, 35, was one of the nine Leicester players caught up in last week's controversy in La Manga, but was released without charge and is not expected to face any reprocussions from the events in Spain.
