ELMSTEAD Grasshoppers and Ipswich are both awaiting their first win of the season in the Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship after their match on Saturday ended in a thrilling tie.

A second-wicket stand of 99 between Joe Rusby (64) and Adam Polley (55) provided the backbone of Ipswich’s 190 for five.

The home team were struggling at 55 for four and 102 for six, but rallied before Nikhil Ellis (34) was out at 156 for seven. It looked all over when Elmstead’s ninth wicket fell at 162, but Andrew Prestney (42 not out) and Daniel Carter (14 not out) secured a tie thanks to a 28-run undefeated tenth-wicket stand.

Frinton are Division One’s only remaining undefeated side following their 25-run win at home to Witham.

Hadleigh, who had won their opening two matches on their return to the top flight, lost by 32 runs at Wivenhoe.

Haverhill had an impressive seven-wicket success at previously undefeated Maldon, with opener Adam Dellar scoring 103 for the visitors.

Daniel Goff’s undefeated 72 saw Mistley enjoy a six-wicket win at Mildenhall, and Coggeshall condemned Halstead to a third consecutive loss upon their return to the Two Counties.

After being dismissed for 118, Easton won a thriller at home to Dunmow by just two runs in Division Two.

Tim Caltey (135 not out) and Sam Readman (80) shared a second-wicket stand worth 177 as Exning beat Braintree by 46 runs.

Bradley Pitts (140) and Kushan Pathiranage (124 not out) were among the runs for Clacton 2nd XI against Ipswich East Suffolk 2nd XI in Division Four. Henry Colburn (122 not out) and Owen Grisby (116) did likewise in Division Five for Bury St Edmunds against Ipswich 3rd XI.
