SRI Lanka have beaten England in the first Test in Kandy by 88 run after the tourists were bowled out for 261 in their second innings. Ian Bell top-scored with 74 and Matt Prior made 63 while Essex's Ravi Bopara, who was making his Test debut, scored 34.

Chaminda Vaas claimed three for 56 and Muttiah Muralitharan three for 85 as Sri Lanka went 1-0 up in the series.
