ESSEX County Cricket Club has been fined £500 and batsman Owais Shah £250 by the ECB for using an unregistered agent.

A statement released by the ECB today said: “The ECB Cricket Discipline Commission has fined Essex County Cricket Club £500 and Owais Shah £250 in respect of a breach of regulations in that an unregistered agent was engaged in the execution of a recent employment transaction.

“After investigation, it is accepted by the Commission that although neither party knowingly and wilfully breached the regulations, they admit the breach and apologise for it. Both parties have accepted the financial penalty.

“In these circumstances the matter has been dealt with by way of summary procedure.

“The ECB will make no further comment on this matter.”
