THE four former Two Counties teams in the Gibbs Denley East Anglian Premier League met in the final games of the season and there were encouraging wins for Essex pair Clacton and Halstead over Suffolk opponents Sudbury and Bury St Edmunds respectively.

Clacton, who had been looking over their shoulders over the last few weeks, fearing a revival by bottom team Norwich, collected 30 points from their 93-run win over Sudbury to move up to 10th in the final table.

Opening batsman Garth Davson scored 108 and Michael Comber improved on that with 122 as Clacton were bowled out for 308.

Darren Batch, with five for 31, had Comber caught by James Poulson and then cleaned up the tail.

He then scored 33 and Nathan Poole followed up with 68 but of the remaining batsmen only Craig Smith (21) and Matt Hunn (40 not out) made much of a contribution as Ben France (six for 59) and Imran Sheikh (three for 64) sent them packing for 215.

There was a thrilling finish at the Victory Ground as Halstead scored 193 and then dismissed the home team for 191, with David Elsbury grabbing seven for 25 from 12.2 overs.

Earlier Justin Bishop had also taken seven wickets, at a cost of 65, while Amit Gupta (81), Oliver Ekers (32) and Ed Clark (21) top-scored for the visitors.

Tom Huggins scored 59 at the top of the Bury innings, putting on 68 for the first wicket with Bishop, who scored 21.

But wickets then started to fall and only Toby Adams, with 28, stayed around for long as Elsbury got to work.

Cambridge Granta just missed out in the ECB National 50-over competition at the County Ground, Derby. The EAPL champions scored 220 for eight in a match reduced to 45 overs and Shrewsbury won by three wickets with three balls to spare.
