ESSEX batsman Alastair Cook has been confirmed as the new England one-day captain.

The announcement was confirmed at a Press conference at Lord’s this morning that Cook, who grew up playing club cricket for Maldon in the Two Counties Championship and East Anglian Premier League, is to take over from Andrew Strauss.

All-rounder Stuart Broad is taking over as England’s Twenty20 captain, after Paul Collingwood decided to stand down.
