Otley Bowls Club’s Andrew Drummond lifted the Suffolk county men’s Federation 4-bowl singles title at Ixworth Bowls Club, last Sunday.

Drummond had edged out California’s Gary Green in the semi-final on the Saturday, after a remarkable comeback – the Otley man having trailed 20-9 in the last-four game.

In the final, Drummond performed consistently throughout the game to defeat Mark Cole of Thurlton BC to become the Suffolk County Champion.

Mark Euston (Norbridge BC). Earned the Blue Riband title (2 bowl singles winning his final against John Whiting (Leiston Town).

Always a good bowler, it is good to see Euston bowling so well and he will also represent Suffolk in the 3-bowl men’s rinks along with Roger Slee and Kat Stevens after a high-scoring final in that discipline.

The County Secretaries Cup saw Kim Dyer also prevail by one shot as previous national champion, Matthew Smith was defeated in an incredibly close encounter, 21-20.

The Senior mixed pairs produced an extra end to produce a winner, and a bowl finishing just an inch short of the jack for the Hambling duo was to prove best and ensure victory.

The Champion of Champions Cup was lifted by Ian Parker of Peasenhall BC, who defeated Ivan Parnel of IBC, a remarkable feat by the former, who has only been playing the game for just two years.

To reach a county semi-final for a bowler of such limited experience is an achievement in itself, but to win not just one county title at this stage of his career, but two (he was part of the successful 2-bowl mixed triples winning set) is something really special.

Liz de Vere Packford and Chris Jerry were Ian’s colleagues in the County winning Mixed triples trio.

Peasenhall BC can be justifiably proud of their achievements over the past few seasons, for the club were struggling to enrol enough members just a few years ago.

They will compete against teams from the Northern section over the first weekend of the National finals.
