Everton have been desperate for strikers following injuries to Yakubu, James Vaughan and Louis Saha.
David Moyes is said to have been keen on bringing Jo to Goodison Park in the summer, but Mark Hughes beat him to signing the Brazilian from Russian side CSKA Moscow.
