It is approaching now-or-never, with regards Kane Vincent-Young signing a new contract at Colchester United.
U’s boss John McGreal hopes that Vincent-Young will put pen to paper on a new contract within the next few days, after several weeks of uncertainty – the 22-year-old had a trial at Ipswich Town earlier in the month, joining their training group during a trip to Spain.
Full-back Vincent-Young netted a quality second goal during the U’s 2-1 home win over Millwall, in last night’s pre-season friendly.
After that match, McGreal said: “There has been a lot of different speculation with Kane (Vincent-Young), and we’ve been really patient with him.
“I think you can see that in his football – he enjoys his football here, and we are a great club for him to progress and keep developing.
“The goal that he scored tonight proves that there is a lot more to come from him, and we’ve got more to give to him as well.
“I hope that the patience we have shown in him will be rewarded. I’ve got to chat with Kane now, so we will know a little more in the next few hours, because we have got to move forward.
“If Kane doesn’t sign, we’ve got other irons in the fire and we will have to act quickly because the seasons starts in 10 days.
“He can play in a number of different positions, so I’m not surprised that there has been a little bit of speculation with him, but we want to keep him here, and we’ve proved that by the chats we are having, and by the game-time that we have given him.
“We could easily have taken away that game-time, but I am not that type of manager. I like these boys, and I have known them for a long time. We should know within the next 24 hours.”
