The ‘Will he? Won’t he?’ saga featuring Kane Vincent-Young finally ended in positive fashion today, with the player agreeing to sign a new contract.

Vincent-Young had continued to delay signing a new deal, and so was not registered to figure in the opening day 0-0 draw at Notts County.

But the 22-year-old, who was the U’s Young Player of the Year last season, has finally settled his long-term future, and it remains at the Essex club.

Chairman Robbie Cowling explained: “Kane has been in a bit of a dilemma over the last few weeks because he loves being at Colchester United, but he has also attracted interest from teams at a higher level.

“Like most players Kane is ambitious and, at just 22 years old, he quite rightly seeks advice from an agent regarding his career. To clarify the situation, everyone involved has acted with extreme professionalism at all times, including Kane’s agent who has been providing Kane with the advice that he believes is in Kane’s best interest.”
