Leiston make the long trip to Folkestone tomorrow night in an FA Trophy replay, with manager Glenn Driver ruing the fact his team are having to make the journey at all.

The first qualifying round tie between the two teams ended 1-1 at Victory Road on Saturday – Matt Blake’s second-half goal cancelling out Folkestone’s first-half opener. The winners will travel to Dorking in the next round.

It was a far better result – and performance – from a Blues side who had been thrashed by the Kent team 1-5 seven days earlier in a Bostik Premier League clash.

“We shouldn’t even be travelling to Folkestone,” Driver said.

“We had enough chances in the second half to seal the tie and it was disappointing we didn’t, so now we have this replay.

“Going 1-0 down early on I started to think, ‘here we go again’, after what happened the week before and in the first half they were the better side.

“But we have come out in the second period and ran the show and had our chances to win, so there is a bit of frustration that we didn’t see it through, but there you go.

“We’ll be going to Folkestone to win, we don’t go anywhere not to. Yes, we have a few injuries but we will be giving it our best.”

Leiston are sitting in fourth place in the Bostik Premier after a lightning start to the season.

However, two league defeats on the spin and one win in six in all competitions for Driver’s team, has made a few Blues’ fans anxious.

But Driver won’t hear of it.

“We are still in good shape and we are a better side this year than last,” he said.

“We have got points this season we would not have got last and I know some people say when the pitches get heavier, then it doesn’t suit our game, but I don’t buy that.

“We will always try to get the ball down and play.”

Meanwhile, Bury Town travel to Chalfont St Peter tomorrow looking to make FA Trophy progress after a late Chalfont own goal saw the two teams finish 1-1 at Ram Meadow on Saturday.

Ben Chenery’s side had to play with 10 men for much of the second period on Saturday after Kyron Clements was sent off.

The winners face a big test away at big-spending Premier Division side Billericay Town.

Also in the Trophy tomorrow night, Heybridge Swifts entertain Tonbridge Angels.
