Felixstowe secured promotion from Division 3NE in this battling encounter with Bury St Edmunds.
It was the home team that started the brightest and they looked likely to score on a number of occasions with some fast flowing attacking hockey.
After a series of near misses, the tireless Will Hardcastle set up Alex Woodhouse, whose fierce shot was parried well by the goalkeeper, only for Matt Burden to follow up sharply, turning in the re-bound.
It was clear that Felixstowe needed to add a second to give them some comfort as Bury enjoyed long spells of first half possession. However, Bury were unable to convert this into goals thanks largely to the solidity of the Felixstowe defence.
The score line remained 1-0 at half-time and the Seasiders began the second half the stronger team, with the midfield providing good service to the front pair, whose quick movements were a constant threat to the away side's defence.
Some last ditch defending from Bury kept them in the game right up until the end, with Felixstowe looking to hit them on the break as they pushed more and more forward to try to equalise. Goalkeeper Andrew Fothergill kept them at bay excellently though, ensuring the Seasiders clung on to earn a well-deserved promotion with three games remaining.
