Felixstowe and Walton will know there is no room for complacency as they travel to relegation-threatened Fakenham Town this weekend.

With last week’s round of non-league fixtures being a virtual wipe out nationwide, and a complete washout in the Thurlow Nunn League, it left the available Saturdays to get the fixtures completed reduced to just nine, with the season due to end on Saturday May 5.

Felixstowe & Walton have 10 games left going into this weekend, while the chasing pack all have multiple midweek fixtures required to complete their seasons.

The result of Coggeshall’s Friday night game with Clacton at the Rush Green Bowl will be known to the Seasiders as they go into their game against third-from-bottom Fakenham Town at Clipbush Park, with the gap between the top two possibly reduced to eight points.

The Felixstowe management will have memories of the last time they travelled away to a side in one of the relegation spots, when Ipswich Wanderers scored the only goal of the game to take all three points, and they will be acutely aware that there can be no room for complacency in this game as they look to stretch their lead at the top.

With four sides due to be relegated this season as the re-drawing of steps 4, 5, & 6 leagues become reality, Fakenham Town’s recently appointed manager Andy Cunningham will know the Ghosts’ chances of avoiding the drop will require a huge improvement on their current form, having conceded 30 goals in a run of seven-straight defeats since taking charge in early January, and this would probably not have been the game of choice for Cunningham in the circumstances.

For Felixstowe, the two weeks’ rest will have given several players the chance to shake off various injuries and there should be a full squad, with the exception of a couple of long term casualties, available to make the club’s longest away day of the season.

On paper, this should be a routine away win to add to an impressive 14 others, but the banana skin syndrome has already struck once and the Seasiders will be looking to make sure there is no repeat here.
