No doubt where the main event would have been this weekend in the Thurlow Nunn League - leaders Felixstowe & Walton were set to host second in the table Coggeshall Town – but that was called off this lunchtime, along with all games in the Thurlow Nunn League – and the Suffolk & Ipswich League, writes Phil Griffths.

It would have been an interesting clash, the home side have the points on the board, the visitors the games in hand to catch and overtake them.

Third-placed Stowmarket Town wouldn’t agree with it now being a two horse race for promotion, but it’s difficult to see either of the top two being caught, and it is now becoming a battle for which way round they finish in the top two spots.

Felixstowe had a nervous January that followed an equally nervous Christmas period, when they picked up just four wins in ten games, which saw their 20-point lead at the top almost halved as Coggeshall churned out six straight wins, scoring 25 goals without reply.

Coggeshall saw their midweek fixture at home to Ely City on Tuesday called off 15 minutes before kick-off, due to a part frozen pitch, with both sides ready to play.

They won’t want have been pleased with another postponement to add to an already busy schedule of games, especially with this game then becoming a midweek fixture for the team from Essex.

Felixstowe’s joint manager Kevin O’Donnell would have liked to have had the the game played, but it was an early postponment on Thursday lunchtime.

“With 10 games left, Saturday becomes was always going to be very important for us, as it gives us an opportunity to put daylight between ourselves and Coggeshall again,” he admitted.

“No doubt this would have been badged as game of the season, and would have probably be our hardest test yet, there is no doubt about that.

“That said, I have total confidence in the squad, and with the fantastic Felixstowe support coming out in numbers to cheer the squad once again, it still very much has the makings of a memorable last few months of the season!”
