With 11 games to go, Felixstowe & Walton United will be looking over their shoulder in the coming weeks as the pressure at the top increases, and those closest start to make inroads into their games in hand, writes Phil Griffiths.

This weekend they make the trip into Norfolk to take on a Great Yarmouth side that took all three points at the Goldstar Ground in the Seasiders’ last home game, and will no doubt be looking to make it a notable double at The Wellesley.

The Seasiders closest challengers, Coggeshall Town, sit 12 points behind Felixstowe in second place but with five games in hand, while third place Stowmarket are a further five points back with three games in hand.

With the top two, Felixstowe and Coggeshall, scheduled to meet at the Goldstar Ground next Saturday, Kevin O’Donnell and Ian Watson, the Seasiders joint managers, have their destiny in their own hands and know games like this fixture at Yarmouth are crucial if they are to realise their ambitions.

With two of the last three Saturdays blank with no scheduled fixtures, and their one league game of the month so far bringing three points on the artificial surface at Newmarket, the Seasiders’ management will be hoping some of their long-term injuries will be getting near to fitness for what will be a tough schedule going into March and April.

They will certainly be looking to take maximum points from this fixture.

The home side have had mixed fortunes recently, beating FC Clacton last time out but losing heavily the previous week at Histon.

They will see three points here as an opportunity to lift them up the table from their current 16th position.

The Bloaters home record on the wide open spaces of the Wellesley has been decent, with six wins and four draws from their 14 home games, and a positive goal difference to show.

The Seasiders’ record at the Wellesley is also decent, winning 1-0 there last season with a Nick Ingram goal separating the sides, in the Bloaters first season back in the Premier Division after gaining promotion in 2016.
