Thurlow Nunn League Cup Felixstowe & Walton United 5 Whitton United 3 Felixstowe & Walton progressed to the second round of the League Cup and a home tie with Needham Market Reserves after seeing off a youthful and resilient Whitton United, who fielded a very young side at the Goldstar ground on Tuesday evening.
The visitors roared into a two goal lead through Zehnn Young and Josh Stevens before the home side got into their stride with a double strike from Jordan Matthews, bringing the sides level before the half hour mark, and a brace from Miles Powell giving them a half time cushion.
Boardley added a 5th on the hour but Whitton were not out of it, with Young winning then missing a penalty and Alex Breadman pulling a goal back to round off a spirited performance in front of 280 spectators.
Needham Market reserves were 2-1 winners at Framlingham Town to set up a second round tie at The Goldstar Ground in October.
