The home supporters turned out in force again for this top-of-the-table clash, and went home happy as the Seasiders recorded a solid 3-0 win against a previously-unbeaten Histon side, at The Goldstar Ground.
A feisty first half could have easily seen two red cards as both sides looked to impose their authority on this Thurlow Nunn Premier encounter.
The home side’s Dan Davis saw yellow after an extended lecture from the referee for a two-footed challenge on Sutton that won the ball but left the Histon midfielder in a heap.
The visitors’ Lance Key was also very fortunate to escape with just a yellow after seeking retribution on Francis for what he felt was too strong a challenge by the Felixstowe wide man.
When the game settled down, it was the home side that were the dominant force with former Lincoln City goalkeeper, Ayden Duffy in the Histon goal spilling a couple of efforts, the second of which on the half hour, was only half cleared.
The ball eventually fell to Josh Kerridge who hit a stunning first-time volley from 22 yards beyond the keeper to give the Seasiders a half time lead.
Crump was called into serious action just once in the game when he saved from Histon’s best player Joe Sutton in the 50th minute, before the home side added their second just before the hour when a pinpoint pass from Miles Powell split the visitors’ defence and set up former Leiston man Francis to score his fifth goal in four matches.
That goal sealed the points for the home side, with Josh Kerridge controlling the midfield and Taylor Hastings protecting his back four with a man-of-the-match performance.
Scott Chaplin put the result beyond Histon with a clever lob over Duffy under pressure to add the third.
The result put the home side top and, with the partisan crowd behind them, there will be few teams who relish a trip to the Goldstar while the Seasiders are in this sort of form.
Felixstowe, who have now notched up seven straight wins, after their 7-2 FA Cup home defeat to Brantham, head to Hadleigh United tomorrow night, aiming to maintain their excellent league form and 100 per cent start to the season.
