Felixstowe & Walton Football Club have Ryman League football in their sights.

Although the Dellwood Avenue-based club won’t be applying to move up the non-league pyramid this season, they have earmarked a two/three year plan to try to do so.

After their thrilling campaign just gone, the appetite for more success at Felixstowe & Walton couldn’t be greater.

However, the club want to bring their ground up to a higher standard than currently exists, as chairman Andy Wilding explained.

“I very much want to see the club play at Step 4 and that is mine and the club’s ambition,” Wilding said.

“Football-wise we are ready for the step up, but right now we are a bit embarrassed by our facilities and we are looking to improve them.

“The clubhouse, the walk from the dressing room, our hospitality hut all need looking at.

“We want to apply to the Ryman League when we are happy things off the field are in place. And that won’t be this season.

“So, we won’t be applying this year, but certainly either next year or the one after at the latest is when we hope to apply.”

There is little doubt Felixstowe & Walton, under the leadership of manager Kevin O’Donnell have made rapid strides.

O’Donnell’s latest signing to add to an already decent squad is former Needham Market midfielder Sheridan Driver.

It will be Driver’s second spell with the Seasiders having played a dozen games for the club in season 2009/10 under then manager Glenn Driver.

That spell ended badly for the 29-year-old, rupturing his Achilles tendon in the final game of the season at Wisbech Town.

Driver links up again with the club’s new assistant manager Danny Bloomfield who moves from a coaching role at the Marketmen to become O’Donnell’s assistant and has also signed Thurlow Nunn League forms to add to the strike force.

“I’m really upbeat,” added Wilding.

“We will take things step by step. I think a town the size of Felixstowe would easily enjoy having a Ryman League team and I think once we are there, we should push for Conference football after that.”

Positive stuff from a club that made real strides in 2013/14.
