Melford win out in five-goal bonanza at Badingham Road

Long Melford came to Badingham Road looking to get back on track with some league points and Fram to continue a mini unbeaten run but as early as the first minute the visitors conceded a goal.

A ball played over the home defence on the left was turned into the area by Lucas Naylor and met on the volley by Danny Smith.

Fram then failed to press home the early advantage and allowed Melford too much space, Nathan Rowe getting on the end of a goalmouth scramble to poke home an equaliser.

A minute later Ally found space at the back post but his shot was turned for a corner by keeper Rose.

As Long Melford grew in confidence, Rowe’s shot was parried by keeper Rose and from the loose ball Lopez’s goal bound effort was diverted for a corner.

The home team earned a couple of corners, Johnson heading over and Willett shooting wide of the post.

On 37 minutes a Melford corner hit Johnson’s arm and from the subsequent penalty Lopez sent Rose the wrong way to give the visitors the lead.

Long Melford came quicker out of the blocks early in the second half before Fram had two shots, Willett and Rodrigues shooting over the bar.

However it was the visitors who were dictating a lot of the play and bringing Ally more into the game created danger for the home defence.

As Fram pushed forward Melford increased their lead when Ally and Rowe exchanged passes and the latter running across the area to slot the third goal past Rose.

Both teams made substitutions and it was Fram who benefitted by the shuffle of players and started to make chances Danny Smith and Cyrus Thorpe looked dangerous and on 80 minutes pulled a goal back when Danny Smith crossed over the Melford defence for Matt Aldis to lob the ball across the keeper for the home side’s second goal.

But it was Melford who deservedly took the points, while the home side will be disappointed to have lost but overall it was an under par performance on the day.
