Former Ipswich winger Tommy Oar has said he’d be keen to return to English football, despite admitting the Blues’ style of play and a lack of opportunities at Portman Road led to his exit after just five months at the club.

After signing for Ipswich on a free transfer following his departure from FC Utrecht in the summer, Oar made nine appearances for the Blues before having his contract terminated at his own request in January.

At the time the winger said his departure was due to a desire to move closer to his family in Australia, where he has subsequently signed with Brisbane Roar, but he now says he would be keen to return to England one day.

“I definitely have big ambitions and would love to go back overseas,” the 24-year-old told The Daily Football Show in Australia.

“It’s always really difficult to predict where your football career is going to take you.”

“I don’t really want to speculate but if the opportunity did arise to go back to a country like England it’d be something I’d love to do.”

“I felt, at this stage in my career, I wasn’t really getting the opportunities at Ipswich, and with the style of play and all these different factors, I couldn’t see myself being successful there.

“In order to benefit me long-term I needed to do something about it and I guess that was kind of a big part of the reason why I went to Brisbane and I’m really happy with the decision.”
