FREDDIE Sears scored his fourth goal of the pre-season campaign as Colchester United won at Maldon & Tiptree tonight.

Sears steered home Clinton Morrison’s misdirected shot on 15 minutes, and Drey Wright doubled the lead with a superb long-range shot in the 52nd minute.

Hosts Maldon pulled a goal back through substitute Mitchell Das in the 73rd minute.

The U’s are in action again tomorrow, at Brentwood, when a few of the first teamers not action at Maldon will enjoy a run-out, including John-Joe O’Toole, Marcus Bean and Magnus Okuonghae,

U’s team at Maldon & Tiptree: Pentney, Aldred, Rose, Heath, Eastman, Gilbey (sub Hamilton, 60), Izzet, Duguid, Sears, Wright (sub Olufemi, 60), Morrison. Unused subs: Bender, Ladapo, Coker, Lewis.
