Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy has confirmed that Kevin Bru has signed for the club on a permanent basis.

KEVIN BRU

Age: 25

Born: Paris, France

Height: 6ft

Position: Central midfield

- Trained at Clairefontaine (French national Football Centre) as a youth

- Signed for Rennes but made only two senior appearances in six years, going out on loan to lower league sides Châteauroux and Clermont Foot

- Spent a season at French Ligue 2 sides Dijon FCO, US Boulogne and FC Istres

- Made a 250,000 Euros switch to Levki Sofia last summer and played twice for the Bulgarian side in the Europa League

- Represented France at Under-19 level, but has two senior caps for Mauritius (his parents from the island off the south east coast of Africa)

- His brother Jonathan also plays for Mauritius and recently played for Melbourne Victory in Australia

The French-born Mauritian international midfielder (released by Bulgarian club Levski Sofia) becomes the second traillist to put pen to paper at Portman Road today, following on from 6ft 5in Hungarian striker Balint Bajner (released by German club Borussia Dortmund).

It takes Mick McCarthy’s number of signings for the summer up to seven following the additions of Polish keeper Bartosz Bialkowski, versatile full-back Jonathan Parr and wingers Cameron Stewart, Stephen Hunt and Alex Henshall.

“We’ve just signed two today in Kevin Bru and Balint,” McCarthy said, speaking at the club’s Open Day – which has already seen more than 4,000 people attend.

“Kevin’s a midfield player who looks a really gifted footballer. He was in the school of excellence at Clairfontaine (French National Football Centre), he’s got a good background to him.

“Sometimes people drift for a while and I’m hoping that he can give us something. He looks a nice, talented, positive footballer who plays forward passes.”

Town’s pre-season ends with a game at League One side Leyton Orient, their 13th successive campaign in the Championship beginning the following weekend with the televised visit of newly-relegated Fulham (August 9, 5.15pm ko).
