Frinton captain Kyran Young is targeting East Anglian Premier Cricket League title

Frinton finished an excellent second to winners Swardeston in 2015, and were sixth last year, but Young is targeting a big improvement this season, with a planned push for the title.

“We should be very competitive,” enthused Young.

“I think we have a very strong bowling attack, with two strings to our bow, because we have two good spinners as well as a good seam-attack.

“I also believe that our top order and middle order batting are as good as any in the league.

“We have match-winners throughout the team, so I’m feeling confident,” added Young, who is captaining the side for his second season, after taking over from the experienced Mark Jones in 2016.

All-rounder Young continued: “We’re looking to win the title this year.

We’re looking to bring home some silverware, so it’s full steam ahead for us, with us looking to get off to a good start.

“The season has come around quickly again.

“Thomas Benn has benefited from playing four months out in South Africa, in Cape Town, while Merv (Westfield) has also had a couple of weeks in South Africa in pre-season.

“They’re both returning to us for the season, and we also welcome Mike Comber from Bury.

“Mike is a massive coup for us. He will obviously bolster our bowling attack and also help the batting.

“We also have a new youngster in Ismail (Issy) Dar, who has come from playing for Wanstead & Snaresbrook 2nd XI. He is trying to progress, as a middle order batsman and seam bowler.

“Lewis Catlow, who was the captain of our 2nd XI last season, has also been brought into the first-team environment.

“Lewis is a finger spinner who should work well alongside Harry Nightingale – Harry has been with the Essex Bowling Academy over the winter.

“In addition to Lewis and Harry as the spinners, Dan Carter and Merv Westfield will again lead our seam attack, with Michael (Comber) and me as back-up.”

On the negative side, Frinton’s intended overseas player, Jay Chislett from Perth, Australia, decided at the last moment not to come over to England, so the Essex club are currently searching for an overseas replacement.

In addition, experienced batsman Matt Foakes has gone back to London.

Frinton begin their campaign with a home match against Norwich this Saturday
