Ipswich’s Jake Nicholls will out be out to impress in front of his local fans when he competes in round two of the Maxxis British Motocross Championship in Norfolk this weekend.

The Hitachi KTM UK rider, who turned 27 this week, made his intentions clear at the opening round in Oxfordshire four weeks ago, winning both MX1 class races.

Recent points-scoring finishes in the early world championship events have given the Suffolk racer added confidence as he aims to add the premier British title to his already impressive list of honours.

Chasing him all the way in both 25-minute plus two-lap races for the 450cc machines will be Bury St Edmunds’ Elliott Banks-Browne, who was second in the first race of the season before failing to finish race two. It’s a circuit the Geartec Yamaha teamster knows well and has enjoyed considerable success on, so bragging rights will definitely be at stake.

The MX1 class boasts a number of current and former world championship riders, including Northern Ireland’s Graeme Irwin and Frenchman Steven Lenoir, who completed the podium at round one. Local riders to keep an eye out for include former Eastern Centre champion Luke Benstead, from Wisbech, Aidan Wigger, from Norwich and 2016 MX National Expert champion Luke Parker, who belongs to the host organising club, Norwich Viking MCC.

In the MX2 class, which is for the smaller capacity 250cc machines, Hitachi KTM UK’s Ben Watson made it a clean sweep for the Austrian manufacturer at Culham Moto Park in round one, and will be looking to stamp his authority with a repeat display.

The Norfolk venue is one of the best in the UK, and cuts up rough as the day progresses, so Watson will have to be at his best to maintain his 100pc record. Also on the programme is the second round of the MXY2 (Youth) championship which features 13-16 year-olds racing on similar machinery to the main MX2 class.

Admission is £20 for adults, £5 children, family tickets £45. Practice starts at 9am with the first race at 11.55am. Cadders Hill is one mile north of the A1067 Norwich to Fakenham road and three miles from the A47 Norwich to King’s Lynn road. Postcode: NR9 5QZ. Parking is free.
