Ipswich Town fans are breathing a sigh of relief following the news that star man Tom Lawrence has only sprained his ankle.

The 23-year-old winger/forward had to substituted at half-time of Tuesday night’s 3-0 home defeat to Derby in some discomfort, but the damage is not as bad as first feared and he may even be fit to face Reading, at Portman Road, on Saturday.

“Tom had a scan yesterday and the news is good,” Town physio Matt Byard told the club site.

“He has basically sprained his ankle so he won’t be out for any length of time. He could even be back for the weekend. We are looking at it as 50/50 at the moment.”

The direct-running Welsh international, who is on a season-long loan from Leicester City, has been the bright spot in a frustrating season for the Blues. He’s scored eight goals – many of them spectacular – in 24 starts and one sub appearance.
