ESSEX first team cricket coach Paul Grayson has confirmed that he will not be available to play for Suffolk this season.

Grayson, 36, has been registered with Suffolk for the last two seasons, and was man of the match and scored 87 runs at Lord's when Suffolk beat Cheshire by 35 runs in the Minor Counties Championship Knock-Out Trophy final last season.

Leaving today (SAT) for two-weeks winter nets with Essex in Perth, Western Australia, Grayson said: “I enjoyed playing for Suffolk, but with my new position I will not be in a position to do this year.”

Essex's players have been back at the Chelmsford indoor nets three days a week since the New Year, and when they return from Australia they are scheduled to head out to Dubai where they will be joined by Somerset, Yorkshire, Lancashire and Sussex and be able to play some warm-up matches.

Suffolk batsman Tom Huggins is with Essex at the moment having scored well for the second XI over the last two seasons.

“We are having a close look at Tom, and he deserves it,” said Grayson.
