Mildenhall boss Dean Greygoose admits to being excited about next season – and will be demanding more from his players.

The Recreation Way club had a decent debut season at Step 4, although their finishing position of third bottom was a tad disappointing.

However, an excellent FA Trophy run showed the team could compete at this level and it was simply a catalogue of injuries mid-season that halted a league run which at the time was showing promise.

“I’m used to winning and I have a burning desire to do so,” Greygoose said.

“So, I can’t be happy where we ended up in the table and the boys know that. They were just as disappointed.

“But I’m excited about the new season. We have the core of last year’s squad on board and I really want to make a couple more signings. I’m looking forward to pre-season. We will have plenty of players to look at.”

Mildenhall’s finishing position last season didn’t truly reflect what had been a campaign with plenty of highs.

They won five of their first 10 Bostik North league games.

An FA Trophy run that saw wins over King’s Lynn and Barwell but ended with a narrow defeat to Lancaster, saw Trophy fever hit the town. But by then injuries were taking their toll as Greygoose rebuilt his squad.

“I know injuries hit all teams, so I’m not going to say we were the only team to have them. But boy, did we have a lot,” Greygoose said.

Mildenhall ended the season with just one league win in 11 – a poor run that saw them drop down the table.

But Greygoose is only looking forward.

“We’ve got lots of interest from players, especially young players, which is nice,” he said.

“As a club we are heading the right direction. I’m ambitious and the club is matching my ambition.

“The ground is unrecognisable from 18 months ago and our crowds have doubled as well.

“I think more and more people are starting to enjoy non-league, it has really picked up, not just at Mildenhall but with many clubs.

“There is a lot more money in the game now which is not a bad thing.

“It shows people want to get involved in the non-league game.”
