The Portman Road atmosphere sent shivers down Gwion Edwards’ spine during the 1-1 draw with Norwich City, but the winger was disappointed his goal didn’t secure Ipswich three points.

The Welshman put the Blues ahead on 57 minutes when his shot from the edge of the box was deflected home off of Ben Godfrey, but the hosts’ wait for a derby victory goes on after German midfielder Moritz Leitner swept home the equaliser.

“It took a deflection but I will take it as mine, although it’s just disappointing we didn’t hold on for the win,” Edwards said of his goal.

“It’s always good to score a goal and even better to score at home but, to score in a derby, what a feeling that is.

“The fans were chanting like that and it gives you shivers. It’s disappointing we didn’t win but we did play some good football.

“It was a great experience. The fans were brilliant throughout the game and they stuck with us even when they pulled the goal back.

“Hopefully they keep doing that, keep cheering us on and I’m sure we will get there.”

Edwards could have doubled his and his team’s tally soon after his opener but dragged his shot wide. He’s hoping to right that wrong when the two sides reconvene at Carrow Road on February 9.

He said: “We pressed high and I won the ball, Kayden (Jackson) took the player away and I put it across the keeper because I thought he was going to read me and got the other side, but I just put a little too much on it.

“I probably should score there and on another day it will go in – hopefully I can do it at Carrow Road (in February).”

Overall, the 25-year-old believes his side did enough to claim three points.

“I think we deserved to win,” he said.

“We had a couple of chances and I don’t think they had too many to be fair – what they did have we dealt with. It’s just that little mistake again where we should clear our lines.

“We’re playing good football so we all have to stick together and the win will come.”

The Blues are not in action again until the visit to Hull on September 15, with Edwards hoping the international break will be useful for the Blues.

“It’s always nice to have a little break, to rest up and those who have knocks can get back to 100 per cent and then hit the ground running again,” he said.
