Centuries from the Frinton-on-Sea 2nd XI duo of John Hambrook and Miguel Machado helped to inflict a 108-run defeat on Ipswich at Clay Hall Farm, in Division One of the Two Counties Championship.

After opener Joe Fowler had scored 52, the experienced Hambrook, in harness with regular 1st XI player Machado, shared an unbroken stand of 168 for the third wicket to propel Frinton to a final total of 288 for two off 50 overs.

Hambrook compiled his unbeaten 122 off 145 balls, while Machado blazed his way to 102 not out off a mere 65 deliveries, with six sixes and seven fours.

Only Ian Knight (10-1-19-0) escaped any severe punishment among the Ipswich bowlers.

Skipper Joe Rusby top-scored with 48 in Ipswich’s reply, which ended on 180 for seven. Damien Smith contributed 36 and Mark Phillips an unbeaten 30.

Ipswich are eighth in the table, while a sixth win of the season for Frinton 2nds has them third from bottom.

Second-from-bottom Hadleigh succumbed to a five-wicket loss at home to Coggeshall Town.

Having been inserted into bat, Hadleigh were dismissed for 142 in the 37th over, with only Thomas Piddington, who struck 10 fours in his swift 50, and Daniel Shanks (31) having any joy.

Coggeshall reached their target in the 40th over, George Hanham seeing them home with a fine 80 not out at No 3. Matt Kent took three for 32 off his 10 overs.

Defending champions Elmstead, who have been at the foot of the table all summer, were soundly beaten by eight wickets at improving Mistley.

A 105-run partnership for the third wicket, between skipper Aiden O’Brien (61) and Ryan Vickery (81) helped Elmstead to a total of 233 for nine.

But Mistley made short work of their reply, helped by an opening stand of 83 between skipper Daniel Goff (53 off 35 balls) and Matt Bibby (60).

James Scott (73 not out) and Sizwe Masondo (39no) ensured there were no further setbacks by putting on an unbrolen stand of 86 for the third wicket.
