Harleston Magpies 1 Ipswich 4

Harleston played their first post-Christmas league game against local rivals Ipswich.

Magpies started the game at a high intensity, keeping possession for long periods of time and building pressure on Ipswich. Harleston eventually got the break through they were looking for when Andy Hipwell drag flicked a short corner into the back of the net.

Harleston continued to push forward looking for their second. Tom Sumner was playing excellently at right back, pushing forward at every opportunity, however, Magpies could not convert their chances.

Iain Martin pulled off a great diving save towards the end of the half to ensure Harleston went into the break in the lead.

In the second half Ipswich came at Harleston, putting them under a lot of pressure early on. With three minutes gone Harleston lost David Ling to a nasty head injury. With Harleston forced into changes they struggled to get going again and Ipswich soon equalised with a well-struck short corner. With Magpies pushing forward in search of a winning goal they were hit on the break and Ipswich took the lead. With time running out Harleston were looking for the equaliser and again were caught on the break two more times. This defeat saw Magpies slip from the top of the league with two very important weekends of hockey coming up.
