HARLESTON Magpies II consolidated second place in Division One going into the Christmas break.
In a game played in dreadful conditions, Magpies stormed into a 3-0 lead before allowing Vauxhall back into the game and only lead 3-2 at the break.
An early second half goal settled Magpies and they came close to extending their lead on several occasions before Vauxhall scored a goal about 10 minutes from time to ensure a nail biting last few minutes for the home side.
Good defensive work meant that they held on for victory and are now six points ahead of third paced Brentwood as they go into the Christmas break.
Scorers for Magpies were man-of-the-match Dan Legg (2), Gavin Cole and Duncan Steven.
