Colchester United have this afternoon completed the signing of midfielder Harry Pell from Cheltenham Town.

The highly-rated Pell has signed for the U’s on a three-year contract, for an undisclosed six-figure fee.

“I’m over the moon to have signed for Colchester,” revealed Pell in a tweet.

“It’s a new and exciting chapter in my career – already itching to get in for pre season, meet the boys... and start the hard work.”

The 26-year-old made 118 league appearances for the Robins, after moving from Eastleigh in May, 2015.

An imposing figure in central midfield, Pell stands at 6ft 4ins, and so will remind U’s fans of their former player, Greg Halford, a player of a similar stature and a star of the Championship era.

Pell scored six goals in 42 games in all competitions this season.

“Harry wants to get back to nearer where his family are and it’s a great offer,” revealed Cheltenham chairman, Paul Baker.

Pell said of his move: “I’m really optimistic about the move and I am thankful for those who have brought me here, I can’t wait to get going.

“I first heard of the interest last year and for whatever reason, it didn’t quite happen, but I’ve known for a few weeks now about Colchester being interested again.

“I fully believe that this is the place for me to develop my career and I want to help move the team forward.

“I’m an Essex lad, so it’s like coming home really. The family are buzzing and will no doubt come to games and become Colchester fans.”
