Division 7NE
Harwich 1 Ipswich East Suffolk IV 4
A blustery day by the seaside saw the waves crash over the sea defences next to the pitch as Harwich, riding high at the top of the table and unbeaten in the league, were forced to raise their top gallants to sail on through this tough battle with IES.
The old sea dogs made way against the tide and threatened to unsettle a young, confident crew that put a brace past Bulldog Murray and his defenders, before ever the skipper (delayed on matters of state justice) took the field.
The game ebbed and flowed with some stalwart opposition mounted against a free flowing Harwich attack. Whiting and Pope marauder deep in to enemy territory, ably assisted by the precision of Keedle's fire power, but failed to raise the Jolly Roger for more than a few minutes at a time.
It took Keedle, rolling out his trusty 24 pounder towards the end of the skirmish, to breach the Harwich defence with as sweet a shot as you are likely to see this side of the Barbary Coast.
